My name is Khalila, and The Cosmopolitan Lens was inspired by my gap-year travels. As I began to travel, I was introduced to a world completely outside of my own. The more places I visited, the more stories I found people had to share. People shared things I would have never assumed from reading an informational article online. So, I created The Cosmopolitan Lens to give people their own voice and act as a place to bring together their unfiltered perspectives. As a photographer myself, I know how expressive a photograph can be. Often we see images taken by professional photographers who don’t feel connected to the place they are photographing for an article. So I figured the best way to change this way of documenting was to let people tell their stories themselves, through their own words and photos. The goal is for The Cosmopolitan Lens to act as an invitation to regular people all over the world to share themselves with others, and I encourage anyone who feels a connection with the prompt to submit!
